Photos & Videos

Photos and videos from the field are some of the most valuable records of an incident. Wildflyer keeps them organised, geolocated, and tied to the incident — so you can see where each photo was taken, right on the map.

Open the Media tab in the incident detail and click Upload, or drag files straight into the panel.

On mobile, you can also:

  • Choose from your photo gallery
  • Take a photo or video directly with your camera

You can upload multiple files at once. For each one, you can add a caption and tags before saving.

Videos are processed after upload — you’ll see a progress indicator until they’re ready to view.

Wildflyer tries to capture where each photo or video was taken, using three sources:

  1. Photo metadata (EXIF) — if your camera or phone saved GPS coordinates in the photo, these are used automatically
  2. Your device’s location — if the photo doesn’t have GPS data, the app asks whether to use your current position
  3. Manual placement — you can always set or change the location by clicking Set Location on Map in the viewer

Geolocated media appear as markers on the incident map, so you can see exactly where each photo was taken.

The media gallery shows thumbnails in a grid. Use the filters to narrow down:

  • All — everything
  • Photos — images only
  • Videos — videos only
  • Geolocated — only media with a location

Click any thumbnail to open the full-screen viewer, where you can navigate between items, edit captions, and set a header photo — the image shown on the incident card in the list.

  • Photos taken in the field usually have GPS data baked in — Wildflyer reads it automatically, so just take photos as normal
  • Set a header photo to make incidents easier to recognise at a glance in the list
  • Large videos upload reliably even on unstable connections — the upload picks up where it left off if interrupted
