Plan a Prescribed Burn

Prescribed burns have their own workflow in Wildflyer — you schedule them in advance, set date windows, and track them through a simpler set of statuses.
Create a prescribed burn
Section titled “Create a prescribed burn”- Click the + button in the incidents panel and choose Create Prescribed Burn (or right-click the map)
- Click the map to place the burn location
- The form opens with the type already set to Prescribed burn
Set planned dates
Section titled “Set planned dates”Unlike a wildfire, prescribed burns are scheduled ahead of time. In the Planned dates section:
- Add one or more date windows — each with a start and end date
- Add optional notes to each window (e.g. “weather permitting” or “backup window”)
This lets you plan multiple possible burn dates, which is useful when weather conditions need to align.
How statuses work
Section titled “How statuses work”Prescribed burns use a simpler status flow:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Scheduled | Burn is planned but hasn’t started |
| In Progress | Burn is underway |
| Completed | Burn is finished |
When it’s time to start, open the incident and click Start Burn — you’ll set the actual start time and the status moves to In Progress.
Cause options
Section titled “Cause options”The cause field offers options specific to planned burns:
- Prescribed burn
- Agricultural
- Training
- Land management
- Scheduled burns appear in the Planned tab of the incidents panel, making them easy to find
- You can draw the planned burn area before the burn starts
- After the burn, use evaluations to collect feedback from the team
