The map is where you spend most of your time in Wildflyer. It shows weather conditions, active incidents, and your saved locations — all in one view.

Press S (or click the style button, top-right) to switch between four backgrounds:

StyleBest for
StreetsRoad detail and urban context
OutdoorTerrain, elevation, and topography
SatelliteAerial imagery of the landscape
DatavizNeutral background that makes weather data stand out

The map automatically adjusts to your light or dark theme.

To keep an eye on a location, you can save it as a monitored location:

  • Search — press Cmd+K (or Ctrl+K) to search for a place by name
  • Right-click the map and select Show Forecast to preview a location, then save it

Saved locations appear as pins on the map and show the current value of your selected weather variable (temperature, wind, FWI, etc.). Click any pin to see the full forecast.

Press L (or click the layers button) to control what’s visible on the map:

  • Monitored locations — your saved pins
  • Weather stations — nearby observation stations
  • Incidents — active fire markers
  • Place labels — city and town names
  • Boundaries — administrative borders
  • Streets — road network overlay
  • Scroll to zoom, drag to pan, double-click to zoom in
  • Click the compass (appears when the map is rotated) to reset north
  • Click the locate button to jump to your current position
  • At zoom level 10+, a 3D terrain toggle appears for a tilted topographic view

The map remembers your last position between sessions.

  • Press M to jump to the map from anywhere in the app
  • Use the Dataviz style when reviewing forecast data — the neutral background makes colour-coded weather layers much easier to read
  • Right-click the map for quick actions: create an incident, start a prescribed burn, or check the forecast at any point
  • The timeline at the bottom lets you step through forecast hours — use the and arrow keys to move one step at a time, or press N to jump back to now
